balcony lifts
When a couch won't clear the stairwell turn or a bed base exceeds doorway width after measuring twice, the internal route stops being an option. Easy Move Furniture Removals provides balcony lifts for Auckland properties where standard household items cannot physically pass through the building's internal access points.

Access Problems

A three-seater couch measures 2.2 metres in length. The front doorway clears it when angled at 45 degrees, but the stairwell to the upper floor has a 1.75-metre ceiling height at the landing. The geometry doesn’t work.
Rotating the couch vertically reduces the footprint to 0.9 metres wide, but the stairwell itself measures 0.85 metres between walls at the narrowest point. These measurement conflicts happen when Auckland properties were built to different dimensional standards across different decades.
The assessment comes down to three measurements: the furniture’s height, width, and depth against every doorway, hallway width, stairwell clearance, and ceiling height along the intended path. When the measurements confirm internal passage isn’t possible, balcony lifts address the access limitation by using the external entry point instead.
Properties in Auckland with heritage features, load-bearing walls, or structural elements that can’t be temporarily removed create fixed constraints. A ceiling beam that reduces clearance by 15 centimetres, or a bannister that projects into the stairwell space, can make what looked possible on paper impossible in practice. These constraints are typically assessed to determine when external lifting provides a practical solution.
What 17 Years Moving Auckland Teaches You
What You Can Expect From Easy Move
We get calls every week from people who need movers tomorrow. Same story, they booked someone cheap, got cancelled last night.
Here's what we do differently:

We Show Up + Clear Communication
The biggest complaint about movers is no-shows and then radio silence. We confirm the day before, show up when promised, and keep you updated. Auckland traffic happens, but you'll know what's happening. If were running late you'll get a call.

Auckland Movement Intelligence
17 years driving around Auckland means we know which routes turn into 5 pm parking nightmares. Spaghetti Junction timing matters. Auckland needs smaller trucks. Other Suburbs needs hill planning. This isn't vague local expertise it's actual Auckland knowledge.

We Set Realistic Timelines
We don't promise perfection because that's marketing nonsense. Moving involves traffic and unexpected challenges. Wednesday and Thursday evenings have the worst Auckland traffic. We give honest timeframes and won't overpromise.

Whether you’re three floors up in a walk-up or dealing with strict building rules about move times, we’ll work around it and get you sorted.

Office Movers
Moving offices doesn’t have to mean losing business days. We can schedule your move for evenings or weekends so you lock up Friday and walk into a ready-to-go office Monday morning. From desks and filing cabinets to IT gear and meeting room furniture, we’ll shift your small to medium office.

Long Distance Movers
Moving from Auckland to Hamilton, Tauranga, Taupo, Rotorua, Whangarei, or New Plymouth? We do long-distance moves throughout the North Island regularly. The further you’re going, the more planning matters, we’ll work out the logistics, coordinate timing, and make sure everything arrives safely.

Packing Services
Some people love packing, and most people hate it. We offer full packing for everything you own, partial packing if you just want us to handle the fragile or valuable stuff, or you can do it all yourself. Full packing means we show up with materials and pack the lot. Partial means you do the easy stuff, we handle the breakables.

WINZ Approved Movers
Easy Move Furniture Removals Auckland is WINZ-approved, which means Work and Income clients can use their assistance payments to cover moving costs. You’ll need a written quote from us for WINZ approval before the move happens, and we’ll sort that for you. It’s all above board and straightforward, just let us know you’re using WINZ assistance.

Moving Helpers
Need movers to help load your truck, move furniture around the house, or handle an internal house move? Our moving helpers are actual movers, not just regular labourers, so they know how to shift heavy stuff safely. Same hourly rates as our truck moves. Perfect if you’ve got the vehicle sorted but need the muscle and know-how.

Storage
If your move-in date doesn’t line up with your move-out date, or you’re downsizing and need somewhere for your stuff, we partner with secure local storage facilities. Short-term or long-term options available. We can move your gear into storage and then deliver it when you’re ready. Saves you making two trips and dealing with storage logistics yourself.

Additional Services
Give us a call or fill out the online form with your move details. Where you’re moving from and to, rough idea of how much stuff, any tricky access like stairs or tight parking. Our pricing covers the truck, the team, and the time. If you’re using WINZ assistance, let us know upfront so we can provide the written quote you’ll need for approval.
We’ll lock in your moving date. Peak times like end of month and weekends get busy, so booking ahead helps. We’ll confirm everything with you a few days before the move, timing, team size, any special requirements. For moves needing ferry bookings (Waiheke, Russell, Great Barrier Island), we sort those reservations once your date is confirmed. If you need packing supplies or our packing service, we’ll arrange delivery or schedule the packing team.
Use smaller boxes for heavy stuff like books, bigger boxes for lighter items like bedding. Don’t overfill boxes or they’ll break apart when we’re moving them. Label everything clearly so we know which room it goes to at the other end. If you’ve booked our packing service, we’ll handle this for you. Empty drawers need to come out of furniture, beds usually need to be pulled apart, and anything fragile should be wrapped properly. On moving day, clear the hallways and doorways so we can work efficiently.
We’ll show up at the agreed time with the right-sized truck and team for your move. The crew will load everything carefully, using blankets and straps to protect your furniture in transit. If something needs to be disassembled, we’ll handle that. The move time depends on how much you’re moving and the access at both ends, stairs, long carries, tight corners all add time. For long-distance moves, we’ll coordinate timing for delivery. At the destination, we’ll unload everything into the rooms you’ve specified and reassemble what we took apart.
Once everything’s unloaded and assembled, you’re good to go. For moves using our storage service, just let us know when you want your stored items delivered and we’ll schedule that. Any issues or concerns, give us a call straight away.
Payment on completion. We accept cash, bank transfer, or Visa.

When Furniture Construction Prevents Disassembly
Some couches have frames welded as single units with upholstery permanently attached. The legs unscrew and the cushions lift off, but the main body remains a solid piece that measures 2.1 metres by 0.95 metres.
When that main body won’t fit through a 0.85-metre doorway even after removing everything detachable, disassembly has reached its limit. Balcony lifts become relevant when the furniture’s construction method leaves no further options for making it smaller.
Bed frames present similar constraints. A metal bed frame with corner joints welded rather than bolted cannot be separated into components. The manufacturer designed it as a permanent assembly, which means the frame arrives at your property as one piece and will leave as one piece.
Even when furniture can technically be disassembled further, doing so often voids warranties or requires technical knowledge to reassemble correctly. A reclining couch with integrated mechanisms might have screws holding the recliner assembly to the frame, but removing them could damage the mechanism’s calibration or create reassembly problems.
Taking apart furniture might be simple with the right tools and instructions, but if the components still won’t fit through the stairwell after disassembly, you’ve invested time in an approach that didn’t solve the access problem. When attempting disassembly risks damaging the furniture or creating a situation where you can’t put it back together, the external lift provides access without those risks.
When Move Deadlines Create Time Pressure
Deadline Constraints
Tenancy agreements in Auckland typically specify an end date, often with a final inspection scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on the last day of the tenancy. When a couch won’t fit down the internal stairwell, and you have until noon to vacate the property completely, spending three hours attempting different angles and risking damage to walls creates a deadline problem.
Easy Move Furniture Removals’ balcony lifts offer a time-certain solution. Property settlement dates function similarly; the contract specifies that vacant possession must be provided by 12 noon on settlement day.
If you’re moving out of a second-storey townhouse and the new owners legally take possession at that time, furniture that can’t pass through the internal stairwell must be out before then. External lifting completes in a fraction of the time required for internal problem-solving.
Auckland properties with body corporate rules sometimes restrict furniture movement to specific days or hours. A multi-unit building might permit moves only between 8 am and 4 pm on weekdays, or require booking of shared facilities. The external approach provides certainty that the move will be completed within the permitted hours.

When Upper-Floor Access Lacks Capacity
Auckland’s higher-density housing includes townhouses and multi-level properties where service lifts either don’t exist or weren’t sized for household furniture. A building might have a 650mm-wide service lift that transports boxes and small items but cannot accommodate a standard three-seater couch.
When the only alternative internal route involves a stairwell with a supporting wall that creates a pinch point at 0.75 metres width, or a ceiling beam that reduces vertical clearance to 1.85 metres, getting furniture to upper floors requires working around those fixed limitations.
Properties that started as single-level homes and later had second storeys added during renovations often present access challenges because the internal stairwell was added into available space rather than designed for furniture movement. This can result in stairwell configurations where the landing area measures 1.2 metres by 1.1 metres, adequate for people but insufficient for pivoting a 2-metre couch.
The angle of ascent might be steeper than modern building standards would permit, or the stairwell might include a spiral section that creates geometry problems for anything beyond certain dimensions.
The balcony or window becomes the functional entry point when internal paths prove inadequate. A first-floor unit with a 2.5-metre-wide sliding door to the balcony offers better clearance than a 0.9-metre internal doorway followed by a stairwell with multiple directional changes. These building layouts often determine which lifting approach is practical for a given property.
When Building Work Restricts Movement
Renovation projects in Auckland properties often involve scaffolding, protective barriers, or temporary structures that block normal internal access. When a property’s stairwell is being repainted with wet paint that requires 24 hours to cure, or has new carpet installation scheduled, moving furniture through those areas during the renovation window becomes impractical.
Contractors’ safety requirements often prohibit non-essential traffic through active work zones, which can include hallways under dust protection or stairwells with exposed flooring. The timing of renovations doesn’t always align with furniture movement needs.
Balcony lifts provide a solution that keeps the renovation work contained and on schedule while still allowing furniture to reach its destination. This separation of pathways means the renovation can progress without interruption and the furniture doesn’t risk contact with wet finishes or newly completed work.
Auckland’s climate means certain renovation work requires interior spaces to remain sealed while treatments cure or dry. A polyurethane floor coating might need 48 hours of controlled temperature and humidity without foot traffic, and moving furniture through that space before the curing period completes could compromise the finish.
The external access route keeps the renovation environment isolated while allowing furniture placement to proceed on its own timeline. This is particularly relevant when renovation sequencing has strict requirements, such as flooring that cannot be walked on until fully cured, or paint that needs uninterrupted drying time before any contact occurs.
