Furniture Moving Costs

We run our furniture moving costs by the hour with our team and truck. Most Auckland furniture removals take longer than people expect once you factor in loading time, Auckland traffic between properties, and unloading at the other end.

Why X Large and Full Size Jobs Need 6 Hours Minimum

Capacity Planning

We can only fit one X Large or Full Size move into a day. Our large truck takes up the full day’s capacity, and we block out the entire schedule for your job.

These moves typically hit the 6-hour mark anyway. Loading a full household takes 2-3 hours when you’re wrapping furniture, disassembling bed frames, and navigating stairs. Add Auckland traffic (peak times are 7-9am and 4-6pm), plus another 2-3 hours for unloading and placing everything in your new property. Six hours is what these furniture moving costs actually reflect in real time.

If your job looks smaller than this, you probably need our Medium or Large truck instead. Both have shorter minimums at 2 – 4 hours. Or book a home visit, and we’ll walk through what you’re moving to size the right truck. We’d rather put you in the correct truck size from the start than have you pay for capacity you don’t need.

Pricing depends on the size, weight, access, and number of movers required.

Professional packing services are charged per hour at the same rate as your moving package.

Packing materials are available at an additional cost.
We offer customised packing bundles tailored to the size of your household.

Short-term and long-term storage options are available.
Storage pricing is quoted separately based on duration and space required.

Additional movers can be added where required based on access, heavy items, or move size.
Each additional mover is charged at $45 per hour GST included.

Fees & Payments

PLEASE NOTE

Local moves: Deposit details will be sent with your booking confirmation email.
Long distance moves: A 50% deposit is required and payable on receipt of invoice.

If a booking is cancelled within three days of the scheduled move, the deposit is non-refundable.

Cheques are not accepted.

Clients using storage facilities must pay the agreed amount before items are placed into storage.

Payment is required at the completion of the job.

Any costs incurred in collecting outstanding payments will be charged to the client.

Long Distance Moves

Long distance furniture moving costs work differently because every job has different route factors.

Your quote depends on total kilometers, how long loading and unloading will take at each property, whether we’re dealing with driveways or shared access, and how many flights of stairs exist at both ends. A move from Auckland to Wellington with easy ground-floor access costs less than Auckland to Tauranga with three flights of stairs at pickup.

What Actually Takes Time on Moving Day

Time Factors

Most people underestimate how long furniture removals take. Here’s what eats up the hours:

Loading: Wrapping each furniture piece in blankets, disassembling anything that won’t fit through doorways, and Tetris-ing everything into the truck so it doesn’t shift during transport. A four-bedroom house usually takes 2.5-3 hours to load properly.

Auckland Traffic: If you’re moving during weekday peak times (7-9am or 4-6pm) or along the Southern or Northern Motorway, add extra time. A 15-minute drive becomes 45 minutes in traffic. Friday afternoon moves take longer than Wednesday morning moves.

Unloading: Placing furniture where you want it, reassembling bed frames and dining tables, and making sure nothing gets damaged going up stairs or around corners. This takes as long as loading did.

These furniture moving costs reflect the actual work involved, not what it looks like on paper.

Getting the Right Truck for Your Move

Job Sizing

Not sure which truck size matches your move? Here’s how to work it out:

Look at how much furniture you have. A large three-bedroom or small four-bedroom house puts you in X Large or Full Size territory. One to two bedrooms fits our Small truck. Small three-bedrooms go in the Medium truck. Large three-bedrooms need the Large truck.

Check your access at both properties. Three flights of stairs with no elevator? Tight hallways that barely fit a couch? Driveway with no parking close to the door? These all add time, which means you might need a bigger truck or longer booking than you first thought.

For X Large and Full Size jobs: We offer free home visits. We walk through your property, see what you’re moving, and give you accurate furniture moving costs based on what’s actually there.

For smaller jobs (Small, Medium, Large trucks): Fill out our moving quote form with your addresses and furniture list. You can also attach photos of each room or send a video walkthrough showing what’s getting moved. Photos and video catch things written lists miss – like that extra wardrobe in the spare room or the boxes stacked in the garage.

If you fill out the form saying it’s a small job but we turn up and there’s twice as much furniture, it won’t fit in the truck we brought. This will cause issues on moving day.
